Apart from toddling outside in the garden to sweep up leaves and do the odd tidy, nip into town for the odd shop, and of course the never ending housework, cooking, washing, ironing bla bla bla...........

Life is pretty good. Got the beading bug back (bbb) and trying new things with satin cord, such as those wonderful Chinese Knots and also trying my hand at 'Diamond Glaze', so far not hav

ing much luck. But try try again I will. Here's a few items to at least keep me entertained......

The latest in new knots for me is this Phoenix Tail Knot.

Second attempt at glazing. Unfortunately when I added a second coat, two of them cracked! BUT.......I fixed them.

Working with silk cord is far easier than wire. I will carry on with this theme until such time that my hands can tackle the wire again. Good things take time you know.......

No matter how prepared you think you are and we had 3 months of knowing the day would come when we would have to say bye bye to Daisy cat. It was, and still is so hard and we miss her so much. On Wednesday 25th May at 4pm Daisy age 14 died.

The vet and nurse came to our home, so much nicer than having to take her there, in a way. Still wasn't nice to see her go, but she went and it was very peaceful and now we have a wee grave in our garden in the place where she used to sit in the sun.

Easter Monday (ANZAC Day) was spent quietly reflecting life. Afternoon was spent (spending). Well an hour in Farmers looking for new tops 'Sale Sale Sale' time!

Not personally that is, but for dear poor Christchurch, a city I love, just about in ruins. And all those poor people. In Blenheim we get the odd quake rumble, and now when one happens it makes you more aware of how awful it would be to get struck by the 'big one'. It doesn't bear thinking about. We have to live each day as if it's our last, even days when you just feel like curling up and staying in bed for the day, at least make an effort to smell the roses. Eat something you really love, even if it puts a few inches on that waist line. Ok that's a bit over the top! Get a grip Jen, no one wants extra inches around any part of the bod. Talking of eating....... daughter Sam is a gem in the kitchen, she has whipped up cakes, biscuits and now muffins while staying and having time out with us. Top photo is the fruit and chocolate biscuits.And bottom is the ginger and pear muffins. Cake is in the freezer, what's left of it! Oh yes, and it's vegan recipes. I'm an easy recipe girl me, rock cakes and fruit cake are my favourites. Yes I'm a lazy baker. But I do love to whip up interesting salads. But more about that another day.

I hope this year gets better than it is now.....

Too many nasty things have happened I don't want to waffle about.

It's got to get better, although there will be some sadness along the way.

I've started beading again and that's therapeutic. Perhaps some photos will appear one day.

I'll be glad when it's Autumn, summer heat doesn't agree with me. I want the wind to blow, cool and fresh. Clear my head. Give me back some energy that the heat soaks up. A bit of rain would be nice.

Oh stop bloody complaining! Go to bed and read your book. Awake re-freshed and read some more. All for now.

I can't even begin to imagine how much effort went in to designing and making that bracelet.

Reason that I chose both pieces is that I find them both visually more appealing to me with the colours and the amount of time each of these ladies put into their piece. They feel more like spring to me than the other pieces.

The spring time flower bed truly shows the freshness of new life, depicting how beautiful spring-time is. I like the spiral weave stitch and Jen's use of a mix of seed beads, charms, Czech baby bell flower beads and crystals, pearls, Amethyst chips, Jade chips, Lucite flower beads and a pearly button clasp making this bracelet a joy to behold. Oh! to own it.

But a word of warning, the language is a wee bit......well you know! Anyway back to the real job, I should have some new pics of pretties coming up soon. It's been a slow couple of months getting over this 'slipped disc' and having lost my beading 'mojo'. But things are looking pretty good now, and if they ain't well they should be! It's been an absolutely non productive two weeks, mainly because I've been laid up with back pain, an ongoing complaint that goes back 30 years. In those years I had a few episodes of intense pain and this has been one of them. Some call it a 'slipped disc', and when it slips...... boy can it be painful! But today I feel it might just be on the mend, I've even felt like doing some beading this afternoon, and can now sit at the computer for longer than 5 minutes! And move around the house a bit faster than a snails pace.

A few weeks ago (before all this happened) I made myself a necklace using the spiral weave technique, and named it 'masquerade'. I wanted a necklace that I could just pop over my head and not worry about clasps. Didn't think I would have the patience to make a necklace that was so long, but there you go!

Here we go again...... thinking cap on!

What an absolute thrill it's been downloading and then viewing the amazing entries as they were submitted in this contest. We were astounded by the originality and creativity! I've never done this type of work before, except with wire and although I know how to do peyote stitch I've always stuck to neat and tidy. Well this suited me down to the ground. Free Form Peyote, just let your imagination go 'wild'. I've called it 'Gypsy' because I could let the beading needle just 'roam'. Very apt.

Last couple of weeks I've taught myself to knit with hoooooge knitting needles, like......25mm! So much fun if you use the right yarn, which I didn't so got myself into all sorts of muddles. Picture to come when item is finished.

Also learnt tunisian or afghan crochet stitch, again lots of fun.

And for the beads, I learnt how to do Russian Spiral Weave. And then proceeded to make a necklace.

Another Sunday and yep it's raining.......

And also another birthday done and dusted. As usual it was very quiet. No hang on, last years wasn't and I had 2! How could I forget that with my ole mate Jac over here to help celebrate both our 60th's.

Beadhive Divas have another bead swap, except it's not a bead swap this time! The lovely kind June has organised it and sent us all the same beads, and the theme is.......................................... Have to keep that secret until all the beady ladies have received their beads and rules. I received mine on Friday and my item is made already! Once I get an idea in my head, there's no stopping me.

the river is slowly going down after it swelled its banks and all the flower beds, paths etc are looking quite bogged! But not as bad as that awful flood in July and August '08. So I didn't rush out and take pix this time. I took pix of my latest designs, they've been sitting on the work table crying 'pick me, pick me'. So here they are.

Both are brooches, but can be used as hair adornments, bag or hat adornments. And yes, I've been fossicking around in the button tin again. Enjoy viewing these and my other creations. And please leave a comment! I mean, I love talking and writing to myself.........But!

The wee pink and black stall was said to be very pretty and the jewellery was admired by so many people.....that's got to be a good thing! And the lady herself was all dolled up in said colours. So much has happend in our personal lives, outside of beading that is. But still managing to bash out the odd piece. The big push at the moment is getting a lot of new stock made up for Blenheims 'La Femme Expo' on the 2nd May. I have a stall booked and a lot of ideas all of a jumble in my head. Well it will in our home as soon as I un-earth the Xmas tree and throw up a bit of tinsel here, there and everywhere. The un-heard of happend whilst on holiday, I only took about 9 or 10 photos! An absolutely none at the wedding I spoke of earlier! Didn't need to with so many others clicking away I knew I'd get to see heaps of them on Facebook and hopefully the happily married couple will send us 1 or even perhaps 2 or 3 as a Xmas present! Hint hint if you are reading this said couple!! The photo is my first ever beaded amulet purse, Xmas present to Sam. And I will attempt another one some time soon Sam, bigger so's you can actually use it! this one is cute and more decoration, you can perhaps get your lippy balm in it though and perhaps even a tissue, but please don't try and stuff ya cell phone in it, because I will not repair it! Purse or phone.
The holiday was great even though we had a few up's and down's. Another story to tell there, but not just yet.

It's been a month since I popped my wee little nose in here........ So I'm Back! Not that I've been anywhere, just things to do, people to see, but not many places to go. Oh yes the odd show and movie, dinners out etc etc., But we are off on Thursday up to the big 'smoke', Auckland that is then further up north to Matakana (step sons wedding) then back to Orewa for some beach time. So next time I pop in I'll have some photos to show other than jewellery ones. Well there might be some jewellery ones, I've made the bridesmaids necklaces! adieu for now.

Yes...... it's raining! But we have had some lovely sunny days in between. This is what the heavy rain did last year to our river, that's a bridge under there somewhere!

For those that pop in and have a peek at this blog from time to time will notice that I've got a fancy brand new banner, thanks to a very talented lady whom I've never met but regard as a friend, and one day we will meet if we can get some of the other 'beadies' to join us in a beading retreat of some sort and at some place close to us all. One day........... So thanks once again Amanda, I love the banner, well done.

I've just recently made some jewellery just for me. I prefer to wear gold although I do mix and match from time to time. These pieces I'll be wearing for the first time at a wedding next month, now I have to look for an outfit to match my jewellery!

And it's roast lunch time again very soon, only I won't be cooking it! Too busy doing other things like this very pretty embellished button, and there's more in the pipe line. That's a miniature cup and saucer by the way, not a huge great button!

We have had a couple of lovely sunny days though, so all is not lost!

Here's my September YOJ (Images) The image is a baby pic of 'me' which I've 'art gelled' onto a pink button and embellished with seed beads into a netted pattern. I've peyoted the bail and added baby bell flower beads at the base of it.

Right, now back to that rainy day..... it's a great day for beading!

But hey it's my Mums birthday today, and we might be doing lunch or dinner! I baked a fruit cake yesterday and cut it into four little cakes and iced one for her, put a candle in the middle, no room for 83 of them! And I like to give her her own little cake in a special made box as well. No jewellery this year, she has enough! So we are giving her a stereo, small one of course so it can go beside the bed or on a table or in the kitchen..... whateva! And as well as having the CD system it also has a cassette deck, Mum has loads of cassettes and now she can play them to her hearts content. Sam (daughter of mine) has sent her two Dean Martin CD's and she thinks she has to come round to ours to play them....heheheheh. That's what she thinks! Anyway here's a pic of the cake, whoops the icing sort of slipped off a bit.

I found this flower I'd dried flat in a book some time ago, forgotten all about it until it popped out of the book. So got cracking making what I call my cup cake boxes, not that I've made any cup cakes but the idea is still there somewhere. And with careful positioning I glued the little darling to the top of the box. Not as easy as it looks I found out, as the flower was like very fine paper.

All I wanted to get was a video clip of Fleetwood Mac, Albratros! Love it. Oh well try again another day. At least I got another 'fwend' on facebook! Hi Amanda, I sent that bracelet to Sam today, good timing too as she had found out that day that her landlord was selling her flat, or going to try to, hard times, hard times........
Anyway, apart from that it's been a pretty good day, weather great and I started on a kilt pin as a present to customer. And now I hear the kettle boiling and it's nearly time to watch 'Fringe'.

But lots of sunshine last few days. I've been playing with the Chinese knots again and mastered another one. Double coin knot and snake knot. And also bashed this one up cause I wanted to use this lovely green bead.

I suffer with hayfever, and this wind doesn't help. But, thankgoodness for flixonase cause that does help. I was determined to ignor the blog until I had two competition pieces finished plus my YOJ piece. The 1960's..... To be honest I can't remember what sort of jewellery I wore way back then, it was all about mini skirts, pointed toe shoes, back combed hair, flowery shift dresses (I remember those) I recall medallions on long chains, think I had one of those! So I tried making one, absolutely hated it. It's now in the UFO box. Decided I would go with the flower power theme and a brooch was born......

I didn't have a clue what I was making when I started with 18g peach coloured artistic wire, I sort of had a pendant in mind (type of medallion type thing!). Then out came the 28g copper wire and the crochet hook, my favourite tool. Crochet patterns came out next and the flower and leaf began to take shape. It didn't look quite right as a pendant so I stitched a brooch back to it and........ voila! que c'est bon?

What spelling mistake!

Here she is, my Mum, lady of the house although it's not her house she's waving from. I know there's many out there who no longer have a Mum, so I really treasure having mine living close to me now. She can be a pain in the arse at times, but I wuvs her.

Also loving trying out these Chinese knots. This is a prosperity knot with sweet little button knots in between the copper beads. These are my favourite knots and ones I can now do without the instruction booklet.

YOJ theme for May '09 'Nature'.

Love this one, yards and yards of 32g artistic wire was crochet into three pieces and then put together with wire and flat beads. Then decorated with tons of various seed beads etc., The brooch that holds it together has a beaded bead in it's centre.
